Finding relaxing things to do before bed may be a stretch and deemed impossible, but you got this! Continue reading to find out what you can do to help you thrive and get a better night’s sleep.
I understand when you’re tired, all you see is a pillow to lay your head on and some covers to throw over it. I know how tiredness can take over. These 7 relaxing things to do before bed that I am about to share are nothing new under the sun but will help you unwind after a long day and leave you feeling rejuvenated for the next one.
This post is about relaxing things to do before bed.
Things To Do Before Bed To Help You Sleep
1. Prayer
Prayer is one of the most relaxing things you can do before bed. Being able to cast your cares and burdens upon God is fantastic. Knowing your stress and worries no longer matter because you have given them to the waymaker is truly a blessing. (Btw we shouldn’t stress or worry, but we’re human) If you don’t know what to pray, be open and express that.
He already knows your wants and needs. God is an understanding God. The feelings after an intimate conversation with God will leave you calm and at peace. There is no reason why the sleep you anticipate isn’t the best sleep ever. If that’s not relaxing, I don’t know what is.
Don’t forget to share & pin! 📌😊
2. Journaling
Next, you can write in a journal. Writing in a journal can be very therapeutic and a great habit. You can create a safe space where you document your most sensitive moments, thoughts, or feelings, and only you know.
There is no room for judgment or misunderstanding. There are various types of journals that you can write in, such as prayer, bullet, and self-love journals. Journaling is also another great way to communicate with God.
You may not know what to say in a prayer, but you can communicate through writing and still relay to God what’s been on your heart. In either case, you can release, which brings about a calmness that leads to you relaxing for a better night’s rest.

3. Read A Book
There is nothing more refreshing than reading a great book. Whether it’s non-fiction or fiction, you can escape reality and dive into another world. Sometimes, when the book is so good, you might read it for the rest of the night. Afterward, you desire to sleep without any fuss or pushback. Reading helps to strengthen your mind and advance your creativity.
It also helps reduce anxiety and stress. So reading one or two, maybe thirty pages before bed won’t hurt. Remember, knowledge is power. If you do fall asleep while reading, allow yourself the rest. It won’t do you any good to force yourself to read, and you won’t remember anything.
4. Silence Notifications On Your Devices
If you are anything like me, you have several devices, such as your phone, iPad, or laptop, with multiple notifications that light up every moment like a Christmas tree. If this is the case, it’s time to wind down, DND, and silence for a while, most notably before bed. This call to action may come easy to some and hard for others, but it’s worth it.
Detaching yourself from people and the world creates boundaries that will give you a sound mind. The ones closest to you who know you and respect your boundaries will get in their conversations and request within an appropriate time or wait until the next day. The guilt trip behind doing what’s best for you no longer matters.
Your mind and body will thank you for it.
5. Sleep Sounds
It’s not often that you are blessed with rain hitting against your windows every night to put you to sleep like a baby unless you are in a state where it rains constantly. However, you can access YouTube or Spotify to listen to rain sounds. If you aren’t familiar with rain sounds, they are part of a category called sleep sounds.
What are sleep sounds, you may ask?
Sleep sounds are soothing sounds that help stimulate your sleep, which may help you fall asleep faster. Sleep sounds drown out outside noise and aid you in being a light sleeper and diving into a deep sleep. If you suffer from anxiety and stress, sleep sounds will be great for you. If you don’t deal with the same situations, there is still a benefit in listening to sleep sounds before bed.
White, pink, brown, nature, and ocean sounds are just a few. Each sound has unique benefits, so when you have time, preferably before bed, research which sounds will help you get the needed rest.
6. Hot Shower/ Bubble Bath
Whether your day was from (you know where) or you had a great one, there is nothing like taking a hot shower or sitting in a tub with hot water with bubbles everywhere, lol. You deserve to feel good, and if it takes locking the door, lighting candles, and putting on soft music (if you want to be fancy), then do it.
What are the benefits of a hot shower or hot bubble bath?
- Releases muscle tension in your body
- Reduces stress
- It helps you to have better sleep
- It helps you to have a clear mind
- Have better circulation throughout your body
So, I advise you to add a few extra moments to your baths and showers, and by the time you get in bed, your body is relaxed, and the next thing you know, you are out for the count.
7. Herbal Tea
Last but certainly not least are herbal teas. Herbal teas are known to help improve the wellness of your body. They can help with your digestive system, improve the quality of your heart, and also help you in the way you sleep. Ginger, Peppermint, and Chamomile are three popular teas that can help you improve your body.
My favorite is ginger tea, which helps me with digestive issues. Taking the ginger tea allowed me to sleep great because I no longer had an upset stomach that would keep me awake. I am not a professional physician, so please consult your doctor on what teas are best for you. I can only describe my experience to you.
If you can have herbal teas, try one before bed and see how relaxed your body will feel as you lay down for a great rest.
I hope to have dropped a lot of gems on how to relax before bed when stressed, if you are not, how to position yourself comfortably for relaxation and goodnight rest.
I love these things. I need to try the rain sound since it’s healing and make you sleep like a baby. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome! You will love the rain sounds, it is so peaceful. Thank you for stopping by!
